Drugs and music in the 1930s-1950s?

I am doing a project about drugs impact on music for my American history class, and I cannot find anything about what drugs people used to get high in the 1930s and 1940s to get high. I cannot find what musicians used theses drugs, either. The 1950s were a little easier with Johnny Cash an Elvis Presley, but any information about drugs and music from 1930-1950 would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!
