How long should I wait to get another puppy after dog died from distemper?

My dad and mom got me a 6 month old black lab from the SPCA and my whole family fell in love with him! He was already house trained, he was sweet and loving. We relized something was wrong when he started coughing and no eating. So we took him to the vet and tey said tha the distemper. 2 weeks later we had to put him down. It was one of the hardest things that I ever had to go through, but atleast he is in a better place now and not suffering. We put him down one day before thanksgiving. We even cleaned the house so could i get another puppy soon?
